Word practice in Andraly Stories

Sight word and spelling practice, made fun

Turn your child’s weekly word list into talking flashcards, hands-on spelling practice, and stories that use the very same words.

  • Snap or type the list

Take a photo of the printed list and the words appear in seconds. Any list works: the weekly sight words, Dolch or Fry words, or a spelling unit.

  • Flashcards that talk

Tap a card to hear the word. Keep the teacher’s order or shuffle the deck.

  • Spell It

Andraly says the word, your child writes it with a finger, and every letter is checked. Red letters show exactly what to fix.

  • Stars for every word

Words earn stars as your child gets them right. One tap practices just the tricky ones.

From the backpack to bedtime in four steps

  1. Adding a word list: typed words appear as chips, with a button to scan a photo
    Step 1

    Add the list

Snap a photo of the printed list or type it in. Each child gets their own lists.

  2. A big flashcard showing the word 'because' with a speaker button
    Step 2

    Flip the flashcards

Tap a card to hear the word read aloud. Swipe for the next one, or shuffle the deck.

  3. Spell It feedback with the letters to fix shown in red
    Step 3

    Spell it from memory

Andraly says the word without showing it. Your child writes it with a finger and sees which letters to fix.

  4. The story summary listing the practice words that will appear in the story
    Step 4

    Read them in a story

Turn the list on for stories and a few of its words appear in every new story, in bold.

Questions parents ask

What is a sight word?

Sight words are common words children learn to recognize at a glance, like the, said, because and was. Many don't sound out the way they're spelled, so schools send home weekly lists to practice.

Does it come with a sight word list?

You add your child's own list, so practice matches what their class is learning this week. Type the words or snap a photo of the printed list. It works the same with Dolch or Fry words or a spelling unit.

How does Spell It check my child's spelling?

Andraly says the word, your child writes it with a finger, and the app reads the handwriting and compares it letter by letter. Letters to fix show in red. After a couple of tries your child can ask to see the word.

Is my child's handwriting sent anywhere?

No. Handwriting is recognized on the device and isn't saved or sent to us. Photos you scan of a word list are used to read the words and then discarded; only the word list is kept.

How do the stars work?

Each word earns up to three stars from your child's recent answers. Words they've missed recently are gathered into a short list you can practice with one tap.

How do practice words get into stories?

In your child's profile, choose which word lists to use in stories and how many words per story. Andraly picks a few words for each new story, favoring ones your child is still learning, and shows them before you create.

Can siblings have different lists?

Yes. Every child profile has its own word lists, stars and story settings.
